George Michael’s First Posthumous Track Released

Listen to ‘Fantasy’, the funk-inflected reworking of a 1990 B-side.

Ever since George Michael’s sudden and tragic death on Christmas Day 2016, rumours have been swirling that the Wham! singer had no less than three unreleased albums in the vault, sending fans into a frenzy of when the songs might be released.

The bad news is, that Fantasy, the first of the late stars tracks to be released posthumously, is not one of those unheard songs, but a reworking of a 1990 B-side included on Waiting On That Day. The good news is, it’s really good, and gives a taste of what we can expect from future releases.

Helmed by Chic’s Nile Rodgers, whom George actually commissioned to rework the track before he died, the new version is a full-on, funk-infused slice of modern pop, that the music legend would surely be proud of.

The track will appear on the reissue Listen without Prejudice/MTV Unplugged which will be released October 20.
