Fitbit Unveils Health-focused Smartwatch

Fitness fanatics rejoice, the gadget you’ve all been waiting for has arrived.

Fitbit have officially entered the smartwatch market, unveiling the Fitbit Ionic. Boasting a lightweight aluminium case, a myriad of health and fitness features including GPS tracking, water-resistance up to 50m, and a huge battery life (four plus days) the watch has already seen shares in the brand soar.

James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit, said: “Ten years ago, Fitbit pioneered the wearables category with the introduction of its first health and fitness tracker. Since then, we have become the leading global wearables brand, setting the pace of innovation in the category and establishing the largest social fitness network that helps millions of people around the world be healthier.

“With Ionic, we will deliver what consumers have not yet seen in a smartwatch – a health and fitness first platform that combines the power of personalisation and deeper insights with our most advanced technology to date, unlocking opportunities for unprecedented health tracking capabilities in the future.”

Along with its many fitness-focused features, the watch will also allow you to make contactless purchases, receive call, text and calendar alerts, as well as notifications from apps on your smartphone and Store more than 300 songs – handily the brand are also launching their first wireless headphones (the Fitbit Flyer, £109).

Available to pre-order now, the nifty gadget will cost £299 and will officially launch in October.

If the Fitbit Ionic is the smartwatch for you, you may also enjoy a subscription to Women’s Health with a saving of up to 58%
