Tissues At The Ready For Gilmore Girls Return

The trailer for Gilmore Girls: A Year in The Life is finally here and it’s everything we could have asked for, except for one very sad detail…

Watching Netflix’s new trailer for Gilmore Girls: A Year in The Life is like slipping into a favourite jumper. Rory and Lorelai ordering and eating too much junk food and Luke disapproving – ‘Put those mini doughnuts down right now!’ - Taylor bossing everyone around, and that familiar festive glow of Stars Hollow in Winter. But with all the joy comes the sense that someone is missing, namely, Richard Gilmore.

When the actor who plays him, Edward Herrmann, passed away in 2014 it was clear his character would need to be written out. Rather than brush over his absence they have made it an enormous part of the storyline and the trailer becomes a tribute to the much-loved star. With that familiar ‘Gilmore Girls’ feeling of crying and laughing at the same time we see a widowed Emily mourning her beloved husband with an enormous portrait of him – ‘it’s as big as the wall!’ cries Rory.

With the four-part special still a month away, the trailer has certainly given us plenty to think about and a lot of unanswered questions. Why is Rory unemployed? What is Paris doing back at Chilton? And mostly importantly, when did Emily Gilmore start wearing jeans?!? Let the binge-watching commence…
