The Simpsons Predicted Trump Presidency 16 Years Ago

In a bizarre episode set in the future, President Lisa Simpson refers to Ex-leader Trump...

It’s not the first time the cult cartoon show has correctly predicted the future – the Ebola outbreak and Farmville - but in ‘Bart to the Future’ aired in 2000, Lisa talks about ex-President Trump as she sits in the Oval office with her advisers, including Millhouse. "We've inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump," Lisa said. "How bad is it Secretary van Houten?"

At the time the premise of Trump becoming leader of the free world seemed as fantastical as the idea that the beloved cartoon series would still be on our screens. So, what inspired the show’s creators to write this plot?

"It was a warning to America. And that just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom. It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane," writer Dan Greaney told The Hollywood Reporter in March.

"What we needed was for Lisa to have problems that were beyond her fixing, that everything went as bad as it possibly could, and that's why we had Trump be president before her."

In the show, President Trump has left America with an enormous deficit but in reality his legacy remains to be seen. And for those disappointed by this turn of events? All you need to do is wait four years for President Simpson to take her rightful place in the White House.
