Special Winnie the Pooh Story Commemorates Queen’s 90th

A new Winnie the Pooh story will be released to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, written by Jane Riordan and illustrated in the style of the original EH Shephard drawings…

Children’s favourite Winnie the Pooh will be returning for a special story in which he, Christopher Robin, Piglet and Eeyore travel to Buckingham Palace to deliver a special present to the Queen on her 90th birthday.

The story will also feature a cameo from the famous Buckingham palace guards, as well as Prince George.

The tale will has been released for free online, and an audio-book will also be available, narrated by veteran British actor Jim Broadbent, who said that he had “been a fan of Winnie the Pooh since he was a boy” and had named his “very first and much loved teddy, Pooh.”

Author Jane Riordan told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the task of crafting a new Winnie the Pooh story that stayed true to A.A. Milne’s much-loved originals had been “daunting, but a huge honour.”

The relationship between The Queen and Winnie the Pooh stretches back a fair way, with the yellow bear making his first appearance in 1926, meaning that the most famous resident of Hundred Acre Wood will also be celebrating his 90th birthday this week.

The Queen is reported to have been a big fan of A.A Milne’s stories in her youth, and he even dedicated a collection of poems to her when she was born 90 years ago.
