The Artist at the BAFTAs, Adele at the Grammys... it’s definitely awards season!

It was a big weekend. The Artist did well at the BAFTAs, Adele did well at the Grammys but it was bittersweet after the news of Whitney Houston's death.

Yesterday two of the biggest award ceremonies of the year were held – which those of you with an Entertainment Weekly magazine subscription will no doubt already be aware of.

In Blighty, the biggest stars of the silver screen gathered together to celebrate the past year’s films. The biggest winner of the night was The Artist, which scooped up the awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Music, Best Costume Design and Best Cinematography. That’s quite a list!

Other winners include Meryl Streep who won best actress for The Iron Lady, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy who won both Outstanding British Film and Adapted Screenplay, John Hurt who won the award for Outstanding contribution to British cinema and Martin Scorsese who won the Academy fellowship.

Whilst on the other side of the pond, the best of the music industry attended the Grammy awards – which were bittersweet for many after the news that Whitney Houston had passed away just one day before.

Adele did herself proud by claiming six of the awards, for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Pop Solo Performance, Pop Vocal Album and Best Short Form Music Video. Other winners included Bon Iver for Best New Artist, Amy Winehouse won a posthumous award for Best Pop Duo with Tony Bennett for Body and Soul and The Foo Fighters who won Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance.

Jennifer Hudson performed an emotional I Will Always Love You as a tribute to Whitney Houston and her loss was clearly felt by many people there.

Next week the UK will hold the BRIT awards and the following week the Oscars will be held in LA, so there’s plenty more to come!
