Closer magazine has published some news which may make X Factor fans recoil in horror.
According to the publication, Geordie beauty Cheryl Cole may not be one of the judges in the upcoming series.
It reported on a Daily Star article which revealed that the Girls Aloud star has yet to sign her £1 million contract for the show.
A source told the newspaper that the pop star could be holding out amid rumours that former Spice Girl Mel B could be set to temporarily take over the role of Dannii Minogue, who is off on mummy duty.
"It would ruin her X Factor experience not to have another 'girly girl' like Dannii to laugh and joke with and gang up with against the lads," the source said.
The Fight For This Love singer is also said to be concerned that any newcomers might try to compete with her in the fashion stakes, they added.
Cheryl has been pictured this week at the Cannes Film Festival, where she reportedly received £250,000 for a 30-minute performance.
