Today marks World Poetry Day - and across the globe you could be starting your day with a poem to pay for your much-needed morning coffee.
To celebrate the occassion, Viennese coffee roaster Julius Meinl have introduced a barter scheme in hundreds of coffee shops worldwide whereby customers can trade a coffee for a poem - a scheme which got over 100,000 people involved last year.
The initiative is taking place in 34 countries this year, incorporating more than 1,280 locations. Why not try out a ballad for a tall black, or get more traditional - how about an irish coffee in return for a limerick?
At a time when people are said to be spending more on coffee than on a night out, the initiative hopes to get more people thinking creatively and using their literary skills to cook up a composition worthy of a cafe latte.
Whether you can tell your Keats from your capuccinno or your Eliot from your espresso, why not get those creative juices flowing and have a go at trading some rhymes for a cup full of roasted beans today? You never know, you may well end up in The Poetry Review - now with 20% off.
