Apple's Latest Product Launch: All You Need to Know About The SE

Apple unveils new iPhone SE and iPad in product launch overshadowed by the media attention on CEO Tim Cook's longstanding refusal to cave to FBI pressure...

Apple's latest product launch took place yesterday, and amidst the media attention surrounding CEO Tim Cook's running battle with the FBI, a few new Apple products were ushered into the public domain with relatively little fanfare.

The launch began with Cook addressing the recent controversy surrounding the legal struggle between the FBI and Apple over the ability to hack the encryption on the San Bernardino shooter's iPhone.

With that matter settled - at least for now - Apple went on to release several new products, the overiding theme of which appeared to be slightly smaller, slightly more affordable items.

The first product was the iPhone SE. With a 4 inch screen, 12MP isight camera, A9 64 bit processor, the new lightweight iPhone is available in 16GB and 64GB. It will be available to order from March 24, and to purchase in-store from March 31. At £359, the SE is Apple's cheapest iPhone to date.

There was also an update to the iPad in the form of a smaller iPad Pro with a 9.7 inch retina display and an A9X processor, where the pro display will match screen colour temperature to the surrounding environment. This iPad is out on 31 March

The new iOS update, iOS 9.3, promised Night Shift mode to reduce blue light and more personalised News updates to make it easier to get the news and information that you want to see. The Apple watch was also affected, getting a price cut that will mean products start at £210.

Possibly the most interesting new product was Carekit, a health app that works alongside Researchkit to give people control over their health and symptoms. Designed to improve medical research, the introdcution of a personalised app like Carekit may raise more questions over Apple's ongoing problems regarding iPhone security and privacy.
