He’s one of the most successful Tour De France cyclists of all time – or at least he was until this morning. This morning Lance Armstrong released a statement saying that he was no longer appealing the blood doping allegations being made against him, meaning that he has now lost all seven Tour De France titles he won between 1999 and 2005.
Those of you cycling fans with a Cycling Active magazine subscription will no doubt be disappointed by the news.
Many are taking the refusal to fight as an admission of guilt, however in the statement Armstrong still maintains that he is innocent and dismissed the accusations as “nonsense”.
"I refuse to participate in a process that is so one-sided and unfair," he said of the USADA’s claims.
"There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, 'Enough is enough.' For me, that time is now."
Armstrong plans to focus on working with his foundation, supporting those whose lives have been affected by cancer and bringing up his children.
