Brighton marathon a new favourite

A Women's Running journalist has suggested that the Brighton Marathon has made it onto her list of the top five marathons she has run.

Women's Running has praised the Brighton Marathon after a successful first year in which 7,589 participants crossed the start line.

Journalist Lisa Jackson was one of the competitors and admitted that the race had made it into her top five marathons.

Having run in 17 such events, she knows what she is talking about and praised the event for its organisation, the professionalism of its staff and the course.

Ms Jackson noted how the compact route meant that there was a great atmosphere with spectators lining up along almost every section to cheer on the runners.

It took in all the main attractions in Brighton and Hove and even visited the village of Ovingdean, before taking competitors on a scenic path along the coast and back into Brighton.

The provisions on offer for runners include a "goodie bag at the end [which] contained more treats than I knew what to do with, including several fab Body Shop products".

Meanwhile, the magazine recently interviewed a 72-year-old woman who is still running marathons.
