The England football team lost out to Italy, Andy Murray lost out to Roger Federer but after Bradley Wiggins won the Tour De France yesterday, the UK finally has something to celebrate! No doubt those of you with a Cycle Sport magazine subscription are pleased with the end result.
Just before the tour started we said that we had high hopes for Wiggins after he was so confident he could win and it seems his confidence wasn't misplaced as he made the record books after becoming the first Brit to win Tour De France since the race first took place in 1903.
Wiggins, who was part of Team Sky, beat fellow team mate Chris Froome who was 3 minutes and 21 seconds behind - not bad going considering that until then the best a Brit had come was 4th place.
The cyclist has no time to rest though, he has to head back home and join Team GB to prepare for the Olympic Games where he is competing in the men's road race on 28th July and individual time trial on 1st August. We can only hope he does just as well there.
