While continuing to hunt for Mr Right, many females are opting to freeze their eggs so they can start a family when they eventually find him.
New figures reported in Marie Claire magazine show there are a growing number of women, particularly career-driven ones, choosing to freeze their eggs.
Dr Julie Nekkebroeck, from the Centre for Reproductive Medicine at the Free University in Brussels, where Brits are going to have their eggs frozen, said: "By vitrifying their eggs they wanted to buy time to find the right partner and do everything they could to prevent age-related infertility."
Lisa Guennifa, associate director of the personal introduction and matchmaking agency Elect club, told Marie Claire magazine that women need to be more proactive if they want to find Mr Right.
"There are plenty of successful single men out there, keen to meet equally successful women," she said.
"Unfortunately, women are highly conditioned with a romantic notion that there is someone out there for everyone, but I think you need to go and get what you want as opposed to passively expect it."
Infertility affects an estimated one in six couples in the UK at some point, according to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.
