When it was revealed that Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and One Direction’s Liam Payne were a couple, the world was both shocked and thrilled at this perfect pop-union. However, Simon Cowell - the man responsible for making them both the stars they are today, and unwittingly bringing them together - has remained silent on the topic… until now.
Speaking to The Sun, he revealed his true opinion about the popstar pairing: “I saw them together and we had a really nice dinner. They were on good form. They’re like two little chipmunks madly in love. Literally, they were so cute.”
Cowell admits that he didn’t know about their secret romance until it was broken by the press in February but that he was "very happy for them." It is well known that Cowell is something of a father figure to Cheryl and following her difficult marriage breakdown from Frenchman Jean-Bernard Fernandez it must be reassuring to see her happy in love again.
The pair are currently in Los Angeles where Cheryl is recording her fifth studio album, and despite their ten-year age gap, seem to be very happy together. The couple openly flaunt their romance on social media and Payne’s cousin Ross Harris has even suggested they might get married! Perhaps we may see the very first X Factor baby in coming months, and we can take a good guess at who the godfather would be…
