Perhaps mindful that Paula Radcliffe is now as much associated with an unscheduled bathroom break as she is with her marathon-winning exploits, the latest edition of Runner's World serves up a "few rules to run by".
Approaching the end of the 2005 London Marathon, Radcliffe, who went on to claim the marathon gold medal at the World Championships in Helsinki later that year, decided a call of nature was too strong to go unanswered.
Realising she didn't have a great deal of time to spare, Radcliffe decided to take a comfort break at the side of the road, in full view of nearby spectators and the sizeable television audience.
In the March 2010 issue of Runner's World, the magazine gives advice on how best to handle such a situation, as well as offering its opinion on the advisability of wearing short shorts and other dubious athletics clothing.
Meanwhile, the importance of a six-pack is also examined, with the magazine noting that strong abs can reduce injuries, as well as help people run faster.
