Lonely Planet magazine subscription holders may be interested to hear that the publication has suggested that employers be keener to afford their staff time off.

According to the magazine, doing so will be to the company's advantage as workers will return with new skills and experiences, making them more useful.

Editor Tom Hall said that asking a boss for time off may be "a more promising conversation than you think", especially if they realise the potential benefits.

"There are things you can do while you are away which are going to help you, particularly if you do something around languages or something vocational whilst you're travelling," he explained.

Meanwhile, intotheblue.co.uk recently reported that more than three-fifths (61 per cent) of Brits are planning on travelling around the world within the next ten years.

The study found that South America, Europe and Australia are the most popular destinations.

Meanwhile, 53 per cent of people have made it their goal to jump out of a plane, while 34 per cent wish to climb a mountain.
