Title: Build It + Home Improvement
Brits hiring tools for home improvement purposes may be interested in the latest comments from Build It + Home Improvement magazine.
The publication has suggested that such companies have to "up their game" after scathing results in a recent independent test.
Which? research found that around half of all DIY equipment tested was substandard, causing a number of firms to remove certain products from their range.
Defects included damaged wiring, unearthed plugs and broken or worn blades, which Build It + Home Improvement editor Duncan Hayes said could have "quire serious implications".
He suggested that such firms should take heed of the findings and ensure that the issues are rectified before a real problem presents itself as a result.
"It is imperative to ask whether the tools have been regularly inspected and whether the blades are sharp and then do a manual inspection yourself," he advised home improvers.
Mr Hayes added that Brits may be more inclined to take on DIY projects as a result of the recession and that it is important that such people take due care when hiring tools.
