Sweetea Pie: iced tea-based beverages

As the weather warms up it’s definitely worth brewing up one of these delicious iced tea drinks. After all, why should coffee have all the summer fun?

Southern Iced tea – Anyone whose ever visited the Southern states of America will know that iced tea is THE drink of every home and restaurant. Simply take a large (heatproof) pitcher, pour in 475ml boiling water, a pinch of bicarbonate of soda and 6 black tea bags. Brew for five minutes then remove tea bags, add 150g granulated sugar and stir it until it has disappeared. Add fresh lemon slices and 1.25L of cool water and chill in fridge.

Spiked Iced Tea – take an iced glass of the above recipe and add a shot of bourbon. Pure southern comfort.

Orange Earl Grey Cooler – Steep 1/4 cup loose Earl Grey tea in 4 cups of boiling water, along with the peel of one orange for 3-5 minutes. Strain into a large pitcher and add 3/4 cup orange juice and 1/4 cup sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved before adding 4 cups cold water and orange slices. Chill before serving.

Matcha Smoothie – Want a morning pick-me-up which has added health benefits? Then place 1 cup of coconut milk, 1 banana, 1 cup of spinach and 2 teaspoons of Matcha tea powder into a blender and blitz until creamy.

Fruit Cold Brew – If you’ve ever had coffee cold brew, you’ll understand why this is one of the best ways to infuse flavour, provided you have a little time to prepare. Just place four bags of your favourite fruit tea in a pitcher with 8 cup of room temperature water, and leave to brew on the countertop for around 12 hours. Strain and sweeten before serving over ice.
