Get a First Glimpse at the New Emoji Movie

After the Angry Birds movie came along, it was only a matter of time before animators attempted to bring everyone’s favourite pictorial shorthand to the silver screen. Now, the first teaser for the much-talked-about Emoji movie – allegedly titled Emojimovie: Express Yourself – is here, and features the film’s main character, a ‘meh’ emoji named Gene, as well as a couple of other firm favourites.



The film is scheduled to appear in cinemas in August 2017. Directed by Tony Leondis of Kung Fu Panda fame, Gene will be voiced by Deadpool’s TJ Miller, whilst his handy sidekick Hi-5 will be voiced by Gavin & Stacey-star-turned-Late Late Show­ host and celebrity-everyman James Corden.

The plot will apparently revolve around the “secret lives of emojis” trapped in a smartphone, as Miller’s Gene goes on a journey with his two friends in order to find the Code that will fix him from having multiple facial expression in order to be ‘normal’ like all the other emojis.
