Tequila Factory reclaim publishing right’s to Rime

Upcoming PS4-exclusive adventure title Rime could see a release on other platforms, as developer Tequila Works reacquired the rights to the game from Sony.

Game developer Tequila Works, who also created Deadlight, released a statement announcing that it had "chosen to reacquire the rights to its open world adventure game, Rime, and is working hard to realise its aspirations for it."

The announcement created a flurry of excitement amongst indie gamers, who got their first glimpse of the stunning, third person game-play adventure back in August 2013 and have been waiting patiently ever since. It was during the annual Gamescom convention that Sony announced Rime would be a PlayStation 4 exclusive and it was only revealed later that Microsoft passed up the opportunity to nab the game (then known as Echoes of Siren) for Xbox Live Arcade, Windows 8 and Windows Phone.

Set on a mysterious island which a young boy is trying to escape from, the trailer captivated gamers with its vibrant landscape and astonishingly beautiful graphics. Raúl Rubio, CEO of the Spanish studio, said at the time: “We always aim to offer unique visual experiences. Rime is all about light just like Deadlight was about darkness.”

The announcement, which came via Twitter, would suggest that Tequila Factory have something in mind for the adventure epic and that thankfully, it won’t be left to languish in the development wasteland.
