New Kindle Oasis Design Leaked

The new design for Amazon’s latest Kindle, allegedly called the Oasis, has been leaked online before CEO Jeff Bezos could facilitate its grand reveal in the next week or so. Bezos teased Kindle users with a tweet stating that the eighth generation of Kindle was 'almost ready', before Chinese language site Tmall revealed the design on its page, before quickly removing the leak.

Details regarding the Kindle Oasis are still sketchy, but images leaked by Tmall point towards a lighter, more user-friendly format with the inclusion of large page-turn buttons to avoid dirtying the screen with greasy fingers. The overall shape is more wedge-like in its design, rather than the traditional slate shape utilised by most tablets; it is thought that the change may be in an effort to make the Oasis easier to hold with one hand, leaving your other hand free for a nice hot cup of tea and a biscuit.

The information contained on the leaked page, though originally in Chinese, also alludes to a new rechargeable battery case that the tech community has heard about recently. It may allow for the Kindle to last for up to 20 months of standby time, as the Kindle’s internal battery and the case work together to provide a 'dual-battery system' that is behind this almost unprecedented longevity in battery life.

Unfortunately there is no word yet on whether the new Oasis will be waterproof – despite its name and the continued clamour of Kindle users for stress-free reading by the poolside – but with the new, funky design and genuine leather case, it’s never been easier to feel stylish whilst cracking on through War and Peace.
