Amazon’s new Kindle Fire is set to rival the iPad

Amazon have come up with a new tablet that could put up a good fight against the iPad.

Jump on any tube or train at rush hour in the morning and you’ll see the same thing – people with their heads bowed down, reading intently. Whereas once upon a time it was a given that the commuters would be reading a book or magazine, now you’re just as likely to see a tablet in their hands.

The kings of tablets are, of course, the iPad and the Amazon Kindle – no other tablet has made such an impact. Those with iPads tend to feel slightly superior to Kindle users. Not only are they able to read books, but they can also read magazines in full technicolour, as well as listen to music and watch videos, whilst the Kindle has always been restricted to black and white text.

But things are about to change, our T3 magazine subscribers will be interested to know. Amazon boss Jeff Bezos unveiled the new Kindle Fire yesterday – a more interactive version, which will retail at $199 in the US (approx £130).

The Kindle Fire will allow you to surf the web, watch videos, listen to music, as well as the all important Facebook checking and has 8 gb of storage. Although the 7” screen is smaller than most, it makes the device more compact and less bulky when you barely have to time to move on the tube, let alone read.

Those who have a T3 magazine subscription are always the most clued up when it comes to technology and gadgets, as every issue of a T3 magazine subscription is filled with honest and unbiased reviews of the latest products in the gadget world. As readers of T3 magazine and lovers of all boys’ toys, we’d love to know what you think of the Kindle Fire when it hits the shelves.
