Well, this is a turn out for the books. TIME have run their annual reader voted person of the year list and at the top of this year’s poll is Supreme Leader of North Korea Kim Jong-un.
Yes, we know he’s a cruel dictator but he has had a great year... after all, he’s in a better position with China and the US now and has just launched the country’s first successful satellite rocket. The vote wasn’t even close – Jong-un had over 3 million more votes than Jon Stewart who placed second in the list.
Despite being put forward as a candidate with 39 other people, we shouldn’t think that TIME magazine would have suspected the Korean would top the list, however the poll was hijacked by users in an online message forum called 4Chan who were intent on seeing the man win.
According to The Guardian, this isn’t the first time such a man has topped the poll either... previous winners include Ayotollah Khomeni in 1979, Joseph Stalin in both 1939 and 1942 and even Adolf Hitler in 1938. The people want who they want, we guess...
