In 1990, Saddam Hussein’s forces invaded Kuwait in an unprovoked attack. He was motivated by Kuwait’s wealth, seeing it as a way to fulfil Iraq’s obligation to repay debts owed to its neighbours. In fear that that this may be the beginning of expansionist plans, Arab states called on the United Nations to repel the attack. Operation Desert Storm brought together a coalition of more than 40 nations demanding Iraq’s withdrawal from Kuwait.

The ensuing operation to remove Iraqi forces played out across the region, with tanks and armoured vehicles the mainstay of land-based operations. Included in this volume is a review of every vehicle that played a role, such as the main battle tanks operated by the key players and supporting frontline vehicles.
