New Toblerone Causes Outrage

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the new ridiculous Toblerone design…and it’s got humble chocolate fans frothing at the mouth in fury…

Everyone loves Toblerone – whether it’s the tiny ones you get in hotel mini bars, or the giant bars you pick up in Duty Free as a ‘present’, and then end up eating all to yourself one night. That silver foil opening beneath the pressure of a single finger nail, the majestic mountainous logo, and those iconic chocolatey triangles. Everybody loves Toblerone.

Which makes the hilarious decision to turn the design of the Toblerone into a chocolate monstrosity that more closely resembles a bicycle rack rather than the grandiose Alps of its symbol. The move – rumoured to be a horrendous by-product of the Brexit vote that has already affected the nation's Marmite – has prompted anger across the internet.

"We chose to change the shape to keep the product affordable for our customers, and it enables us to keep offering a great value product,” said Toblerone owner Modelez International in a statement, “It had to make a decision between changing the look of the bars or raising their price."

Maybe we grew complacent. Maybe we took the shape of our Toblerones for granted, and this is our penance. But with many people calling for a boycott of all products of Modelez International (including Dairy Milk, Cadbury and more), there’s no way of knowing how long the world will reel from this shocking choccy development.
