All eyes on Old Trafford as Rooney destroys Milan

The script was written for David Beckham to make a fairytale return to Old Trafford last night (March 10th), but the Red Devils turned the match into more of a nightmare for their old number seven.

England international Beckham was making his first appearance at Old Trafford since leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid.

However, his dream return was ruined as his AC Milan side were destroyed 4-0 on the night - 7-2 on aggregate.

While some may have expected Becks, who started the match on the bench, to be the star of the show, it was Wayne Rooney whose name was on the back of this morning's papers.

The striker continued a breathtaking season by bagging a double, before Park Ji-Sung and Darren Fletcher made it four.

Beckham came on 27 minutes from the end with Milan already three down and effectively out of the Champions League.

He received rapturous applause from the fans that once idolised him and even managed to test Edwin Van Der Sar with a stinging volley.

However, it was not to be for one of the game's most recognisable faces, with the Red Devils progressing at his team's expense.

Meanwhile, Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic has spoken exclusively to Inside United magazine, which also contains a feature on former player Andrei Kanchelskis.
