Church Times celebrates 150 years

Church Times magazine celebrated a huge milestone this weekend - their 150th birthday!

If you have a Church Times magazine subscription then we’re sure you’ll already know that this weekend marked their 150th anniversary.

The publication was born back in 1863 and initially sold for just 1 penny an issue (that would be nice wouldn’t it!) and has an impressive history all of its own.

Back in 1874 when Catholic-style ritual was banned, the magazine supported Anglo-Catholics, including Rev. Sidney Faithorn who was imprisoned for over 18 months after using incense and lifting up bread and wine during Communion.

They were also not afraid to speak their mind when it came to the clergy either, describing certain bishops as “pulpit mountebank” and “destitute of theological learning”. Ouch.

It’s still one of the most respected Christian publications in the UK. If you want to see for yourself subscribe and save on a Church Times magazine subscription today.
