With Brits seemingly becoming more eco-conscious, it has been suggested that the trend is translating into many different aspects of life.

According to Pet Gazette, animal lovers are increasingly looking to buy natural or environmentally-friendly products for their cute critters.

Advertising manager Julie-Ann Kwok explained that these are two of the biggest trends in the industry at the moment.

"It is all about better feeding, better education about the animal itself," she said.

"Two or three years ago people weren't really concerned about the health effects of food and what was in it - they just went into the supermarket and bought it."

Ms Kwok added that owners are becoming more discerning and heading back to specialist pet stores in search of the products they are after.

The expert noted that many pet foods are being made more organic and how some manufacturers have begun to make eco-friendly products.

Such a trend could be seen at the recent Pet and Aquatics Trade Show 2010, which featured a number of companies exhibiting green products.
