Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is in Vogue

Marissa Mayer talks to Vogue about going on maternity leave, acquiring Tumblr and being a geek.

If you have seen this month’s issue of Vogue USA, you may have noticed that aside from the adorable Jennifer Lawrence appearing the magazine, one of the world’s most astute business women crops up in there too…

Yes, look very closely and you will notice Yahoo’s CEO Marissa Mayer strewn across a sunlounger.

Mayer made headline last year when she was appointed to the coveted position whilst she was pregnant with her first child. However, she didn’t have the most typical maternity leave – working from home towards the end of the pregnancy and returning to work six days after her son’s birth whilst building a nursery in her office.

“One night I looked up and was like, ‘Oh, my God, it's midnight and I have a husband and I'm, like, eight months pregnant. I need to leave!’” she says. “I was just here working, having the best possible time.”

She’s also impressed naysayers by acquiring one of the biggest social network platforms Tumblr to work with Yahoo.

“I’ve done now between three and four dozen acquisitions in my career ... and I’ve never seen this kind of lock-and-key fit between two companie,” she tells the magazine.

However, despite now being one of the most photographed women in the business world – and appearing in Vogue, she still claims to be shy and a little geeky.

“I really like even numbers, and I like heavily divisible numbers. Twelve is my lucky number—I just love how divisible it is. I don’t like odd numbers, and I really don’t like primes. When I turned 37, I put on a strong face, but I was not looking forward to 37. But 37 turned out to be a pretty amazing year. Especially considering that 36 is divisible by twelve!”
