Katy Perry on John Mayer and why she wants to Roar

Katy Perry talks to W magazine about feeling settled with John and being empowered.

Katy Perry is at the top of her game, after a shaky couple of years which saw her marriage to Russell Brand end and a subsequent on/off relationship with John Mayer, she finally seems settled and is back to what she does best – storming the charts.

Speaking to W magazine in their latest issue, she confesses that she’d had her eye on Mayer for a while before they got together. “I had a crush on him for a long time, and it just so happens we fit together great,” she tells the magazine.

Her new single Roar is pretty empowering and that’s exactly the effect Perry wanted it to have. “This song is about sticking up for yourself,” she explains.”'People talk about bullying, but you can be your own bully in some ways. You can be the person who is standing in the way of your success, and that was the case for me.”

She adds: “I was having a great professional streak, but personally, I was really immature, so I had to balance those things out. If you are not happy with something you should change it, so I went to a lot of therapy, and finally, I am able to speak up for myself: You are going to hear me roar!”
