Kate Middleton on the Marie Claire cover

Kate Middleton is on the cover of Marie Claire South Africa wearing an SA designer dress - or is she?

Women in South Africa will be getting a treat this month as the latest issue of their Marie Claire subscription turns up, because gracing the cover is Kate Middleton - an enviable first for any fashion magazine! To the naked eye, it looks like the Duchess of Cambridge has posed for the magazine in a collection of designer garments - surprising for the Royal who is usually so tight-lipped in the media - but don't get too excited, it's all digitally created!

The cover image - and the "photo shoot" inside are all existing images of Middleton that have been digitally enhanced, placing designer dresses from the likes of South African designer Clive Rundle on her.

Some have criticised Marie Claire SA's use of the images, though the magazine has described them as "fan art tribute". Editor Aspasia Karras told the Daily Telegraph: "The cover is actually a hyper-real illustration of Kate, meant to be a fan art tribute to fashion's new royal icon."

Good try South Africa, but we're holding out for the real photo shoot of the future Queen - though we won't be holding our breath.
