Vogue magazine has revealed how designer Erdem Moralioglu expressed his surprise at receiving a top award.

The half-British, half-Turkish expert scooped the BFC/Vogue Fashion Fund, which saw him handed a grant of £200,000, which he will use to expand his Bethnal Green studio space.

Moralioglu beat rivals Richard Nicoll, Patrick Grant, Clements Ribeiro, Angel Jackson, Marios Schwab, Nicholas Kirkwood and Christopher Kane to the award, but was gracious in victory.

"It was amazing just to be nominated alongside such great designers as Chris, Richard and Nicholas - who are also my friends,"

He explained how it could have been any of them and revealed how he cracked open a bottle of Champagne that he has been saving for two years to celebrate with his team.

Having previously worked with Diane von Furstenberg, Moralioglu has also won the Fashion Fringe award in 2005.

Meanwhile, actress and model Sienna Miller has been using her sister Savannah's Vogue blog to draw attention to the plight of the people of Haiti.
