James Cracknell opens up to Radio Times magazine

If you've got a Radio Times magazine subscription, you can read an interview with James Cracknell.

Sports fans who have a Radio Times magazine subscription can read an exclusive interview with Olympic rower James Cracknell.

The sportsman suffered a serious accident last year when he was hit by the wing mirror of a truck while cycling in a race in Arizona.

Following the crash, his skull was fractured in two places and he was put on a life support machine for weeks.

Cracknell told Radio Times magazine that the accident has affected his life massively, as he cannot be left alone with his own children due to short-term memory problems.

He told the publication: "I feel a bit useless. I can't help out. I regret that the injury has had such an effect on everyone.

"Bev [his wife] and I talk about nothing else, which takes the fun out of our relationship. That must be hard for her."

The double-Olympic gold medallist and holder of six World Championship titles told Radio Times magazine he was grateful the lorry driver stopped after the accident, adding: "But I really wish he hadn't hit me in the first place."

Cracknell and his wife, broadcaster Beverley Turner, are expecting their third child in the next few weeks. She discovered she was pregnant while her husband was recovering in hospital.
