Radio Times magazine subscription holders can read an interview with Gillian Anderson in the latest edition of the publication.
The former X Files actress said she is focusing on furthering her career in the UK, instead of Hollywood.
"I want my career to be more interesting. I’m slightly stuck in a cardboard box, and fight hard to get out. I sometimes become frustrated and think of throwing in the towel when I'm doing a crock of s**t," she told Radio Times magazine.
The actress said the most interesting parts she is offered come from the UK, where there appears to be a "broader understanding" of her capability.
Gillian, who has a host of big-name award nominations under her belt, told Radio Times magazine the problem with the US is that they don't realise she's a "character actress".
The 42-year-old starred as Wallis Simpson in Any Human Heart last year and she will take on the role of Mrs Castaway in TV mini-series The Crimson Petal and the White this year.
