Thandie Newton on childhood and getting older

Thandie Newton chats to Psychologies about being a mother, her own mother and why she doesn't mind ageing.

The cover star of Psychologies’ June issue is actress and Olay skincare ambassador Thandie Newton, looking as beautiful as ever.

Speaking to the magazine, Newton talks about the challenges of raising her children whilst working. She also talks about her own childhood and how her mother seemed to different to her peers’ parents. She describes her upbringing as: “Pretty good soil to start growing in. Complicated but wonderful.”

When asked what advice she would give to her 13-year-old self, she says: “Don’t relax your hair, Thandie!”

She definitely seems more comfortable in her skin these days, however. “I really like getting older,” she says. “I’ve acquired more nous about how to get through this life, and all this experience allows me to inform my daughters of the pitfalls and peaks. I feel I represent everything I’ve been through.”
