Harry Potter stars get tearful at the last premiere

As fans and the stars of the movie celebrate the premiere of the last Harry Potter film, emotions run high.

Last night was the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in Trafalgar Square, the final instalment of the Harry Potter series. It’s been splashed all over the news today – even Harper’s Bazaar magazine got in on the action by having Emma Watson on their cover this month.

Fans happily camped out for days to say their goodbyes to their favourite wizard and his friends, despite the torrential rain that London has seen over the past few days.

Luckily the rain stopped in time for the stars of the film to turn up in their finest, who spent hours signing autographs for fans along the 1.2km red carpet from Trafalgar Square to Leicester Square - thought to be the longest red carpet in the world!

After JK Rowling’s first book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone hit the shelves, Potter-mania gripped the nation. It wasn’t long before commuter carriages were filled with grown adults sitting unashamedly gripped by the wizard’s latest adventures. The British public, as well as the rest of the world, were hooked from then onwards.

It came as no surprise that the films were a huge success too. Britain’s best actors all signed up, with Dame Maggie Smith playing Professor McGonagall, Julie Walters playing Mrs Weasley and Michael Gambon playing Albus Dumbledore (replacing Richard Harris who sadly passed away before filming of the third film).

Of course, who can forget Harry, Ron and Hermione? Stepping into the roles at just 11-years-old were Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, who have since become as popular as their characters.

Watson in particular has become a media favourite and is often found gracing the covers of glossy magazines. Those who have a Harper’s Bazaar magazine subscription will have seen her interview in the August issue as well as a good/bad photo shoot. The subscriber edition features the “bad” Emma Watson, donning a striking black wig on the cover.

The actress spoke with Harper’s Bazaar magazine about her acting future and she couldn’t help but shed a few tears last night as she came to terms with leaving Hermione behind after 10 years of playing her.

The stars and author JK Rowling (who also got a little emotional) all gave massive thanks to the fans for their unwavering support over the years.

The film has had some great reviews, so we can’t wait to check it out next Friday 15th July!
