David Beckham makes history as first man on ELLE cover

David Beckham will be appearing on the July issue of Elle - the first solo male EVER!

When we tell you that one of the Beckhams is gracing the cover of Elle next month, you’ll be forgiven for thinking we mean Victoria – but it’s actually David Beckham who will be the July issue’s cover star – exciting news for those of you with an ELLE magazine subscription!

The footballer is making history by being the first male to appear solo on the prestigious fashion magazine’s front cover.

ELLE announced via their Facebook and Twitter accounts on Thursday that a man would be featured, but left their readers guessing as to who it would be until this morning when they announced that it would be Goldenballs himself.

Only a handful of men have ever appeared on the magazine’s cover – including Paul Weller with Kate Moss in 1997, Liam Gallagher with Nicole Appleton in January 2001 and Ewan McGregor with Renee Zellweger in 2003. However, Becks will be the first man to go it alone!

When revealing the news, ELLE editor Lorraine Candy said: ‘David Beckham is a national hero, so we saw an opportunity to shoot a celebratory cover to support an historical and patriotic year. He is an icon and ELLE is known for featuring icons on its cover.

'This is a first for us and I believe he is loved by men and women alike. Anyway, who doesn't want to see a picture of one of the world's most handsome men on the front cover of a magazine? It will be a collector’s issue.’

But as if that wasn’t exciting enough, ELLE want you to get involved by tweeting any questions you may have for DB to @ELLEUK and they’ll ask him some of your questions and while you’re there – check out our Twitter too @iSUBSCRiBE_UK.
