The Arctic Monkeys take home 5 NME Awards

Arctic Monkeys won big at last night's NME Awards, along with Blondie, Lily Allen and Paul McCartney.

With twelve nominations under their belts, both Alex Turner and the Arctic Monkeys were bound to walk away with at least one NME Award at last night’s ceremony – as it happens, the talented boys scored five!

They picked up the awards for Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album, Best Fan Community and Alex Turner won Hero of the Year.

On receiving their first award, Turner made a jokey reference to his controversial Brits speech, saying: “As the sun sets on awards season for another year there's just the big two left. I'm talking about the Oscars and the NME Awards. That said I'd like to thank The Academy.”

Other winners on the night include Blondie who picked up the Godlike Genius Award, Lily Allen won Best Solo Artist and Paul McCartney picked up the Songwriters’ Songwriter award.
