The singer, who recently became a father for the first time, told The Word magazine he finds it difficult to distinguish between music from The Saturdays, Cheryl Cole and Girls Aloud.
He said: "It's hard to tell Girls Aloud from The Saturdays. And then there's Cheryl Cole... It's all c**p."
"British pop music like that is the worst, it's just awful. It could have been made by anybody. All lip-synchers should be shot. Only drag queens are allowed to lip-synch," he added, in The Word magazine interview.
The expletives got worse in The Word magazine interview, with Sir Elton saying he only approves of groups who actually manage to sing their own songs.
He added: "99 per cent of the other f****** Herberts out there can't sing a note."
Sir Elton is currently promoting a new UK film, Gnomeo and Juliet, which he provides the music for.
