Kate Humble wants countryside walks to be made mandatory

People with a Radio Times magazine subscription can read about Kate Humble's views on the countryside in the latest issue.

People with a Radio Times magazine subscription can read about Springwatch presenter Kate Humble's views on children and the countryside.

Speaking to the publication, she said it should be mandatory for all schoolchildren to experience the countryside.

"Children are the future. If you give them access to the countryside, they'll protect it. I'm going to be at [education secretary] Michael Gove about this – and I'm counting on you for help!" she said.

Humble added that the countryside is great for people's brains and soul, which is another reason why people of all ages should be encouraged to embrace the great outdoors.

In terms of where to take kids in the countryside, Humble recommends an RSPB reserve located on the edge of Newport, which is great for pond-dipping.

As well as presenting Springwatch, Humble has worked on Autumnwatch, Lambing Live and Birds Britannia.

She was named president of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in 2009 and is a member of the British Beekeepers Association.
