"He wanted to go to town, so he spent £6,000 on a rock," a pal told the publication.
"John James was really nervous as he wasn't entirely sure if she'd say yes. But Josie was over the moon."
However, some of Josie's friends are less than enthusiastic about the engagement and think that couple have rushed into things.
"She might think she's in love with John James, but I don't believe she is," the pal told Now.
John James and Josie met while appearing in the 11th and final series of Channel Four's Big Brother.
The couple moved in together in London shortly after leaving the Big Brother house.
Previously speaking about any future wedding plans, Josie told OK! magazine that she does not want a big white wedding.
