Time magazine has named Ben Bernanke as its Person of the Year.

Category: Time magazine subscription

Time magazine subscription holders may be interested to know that US federal reserve chairman Ben Bernanke has been named the publication's Person of the Year.

The announcement was made yesterday (December 16th) and sees Mr Bernanke heralded as the economy's saviour.

Richard Stengel, managing editor for Time magazine, explained that the recession has been the biggest topic of 2009 and said that the financial expert had helped to soften the blow of the financial downturn on the US.

"We've rarely had such a perfect revision of the cliche that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it, he added.

"Bernanke didn't just learn from history; he wrote it himself and was damned if he was going to repeat it."

Mr Bernanke once wrote that the US could have avoided the Great Depression of the 1930s and took the necessary steps to help it avoid another one in 2009.

The current issue of Time magazine features the year in pictures, with everything from the inauguration of Barack Obama to the funeral of Michael Jackson.
