Apparently, Jen's presence and occasional meddling in the relationship led to them breaking up.
A source told Grazia magazine: "Jennifer is worried she may have distracted Courteney from her marriage."
The insider added: "A part of her wonders if her own neediness may have taken more from Courteney than she was able to give.
"Even before Jen's split from Brad Pitt, Courteney was on call for her. Every worry she had about her relationship, Courteney was there. Now Courteney have split, Jen is questioning if she took it for granted."
Courteney and David announced they were having a trial separation last month after 11 years of marriage.
The pair, who have a daughter called Coco, said they had no plans to divorce but they are taking some time apart.
