Andrew Garfield speaks to GQ about being Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield tells GQ magazine why he's the perfect choice to play Spider-Man.

If you have a GQ magazine subscription then you'll have just received the July 2012 issue, featuring a very dashing Andrew Garfield on the cover.

If you're not familiar with Andrew Garfield then where, may we ask, have you been? The actor is most notable for his performances in TV's Boy A and Red Riding, as well as the critically acclaimed films The Social Network and Never Let Me Go. Oh, and he's the next Spider-Man. Oh yeah, NOW you know who he is!

After hearing his catch up with GQ's Kevin Maher, it seems that there couldn't have been a more perfect choice of actor to play Peter Parker in the new telling of the Spider-Man films. Growing up, Garfield related to his favourite comic book hero and he says Spidey got him through some dark times.

As a skinny child at school Garfield admits that he was bullied. "I was very confused when I first went to school and there was a kid who was just mean and I just didn't understand it, and right into my teenage years, where I would be mugged on the street, or when I was 17 or 18 and I was in drama school and I wouldn't be able to do anything because there'd be three or four of them and they'd take my wallet, and I'd come home feeling so disempowered and so angry!"

It's easy to see why his love of Spider-Man developed, then and we can't wait to see him in action when the film comes out on 4th July. If you want to check out the rest of the interview, be sure to check out the July issue and to make sure you never miss an issue again subscribe and save on a GQ magazine subscription today.
