X Factor star Matt Cardle 'beat cancer at 2'

Matt Cardle beat cancer at the age of two, and, if you've got a Now magazine subscription, you can find out more.

X Factor fans with a Now magazine subscription will be able to read how Essex boy Matt Cardle beat cancer at the tender age of two.

Matt's parents, David and Jenny, spoke to the magazine about their son facing a life-threatening illness when he was just a toddler.

Jenny told Now magazine: "Matt was two when he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. It was a hellish time and every parent's worst nightmare."

He had an aggressive Wilms' tumour, which he underwent chemotherapy for.

"It's extremely emotional seeing him perform on TV," she added.

"Music took over his life at an early age and it's all he ever wanted to do."

Matt's currently one of the bookies' favourites to finish in the top three in this year's X Factor.

He's closely followed by boyband One Direction, Simon Cowell's last act in the show, and Rebecca Ferguson, who's being mentored by Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole.
