Empire magazine has taken a look at 40 of the best actor/director relationships that have seen pairings work together on a number of movies.
One notable partnership was that of Kurt Russell and John Carpenter, who worked together on five feature films.
The most famous of these was arguably Escape From New York, in which Russell plays Snake Plissken - a character later referenced in the Metal Gear Solid computer games.
"Given just 22 hours to rescue the US President from a lawless Manhattan, Plissken proceeds to spend a good 12 of them punching Ox Baker in the head," the magazine said.
Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro are another dynamic duo to have worked together on multiple movies - nine to be exact.
Three of their most renowned pieces are Raging Bull, GoodFellas and Taxi Driver, although the magazine noted that Scorsese has also taken on Leonardo DiCaprio recently, casting him in a clutch of flicks.
The two have worked together on The Aviator, Shutter Island and The Departed, which also starred De Niro.
