My Chemical Romance 'reacted to Twilight'

NME magazine subscription holders can read how My Chemical Romance penned a reaction to Twilight.

If you've got an NME magazine subscription, you can read how My Chemical Romance penned a song in reaction to the popularity of the Twilight film franchise.

The band wrote their song Vampire Money as a reaction to the popular series of films about blood-sucking beings after they were asked to contribute a song for the New Moon soundtrack.

Despite being offered a large sum of money, the group turned down the offer, saying they had "moved on".

Frontman Gerard Way told NME magazine: "That’s why the song 'Vampire Money' is on our new album, because there's a lot of people chasing that f***ing money. 'Twilight?' A lot of people around us were like, 'please, for the love of God, do this f***ing movie.' But we'd moved on."

"Originally, what we did was take goth and put it with punk and turn it into something dangerous and sexy," he added.

"But then that image gets romanticised and then it gets commoditised."

My Chemical Romance will be announcing their 2011 tour of North America very soon.
