Jessica Ennis talks confidence with Cosmopolitan

Our favourite Olympic hopeful Jessica Ennis talks to Cosmopolitan magazine about body confidence.

The August issue of our Cosmopolitan magazine subscription has just dropped through our letterbox and this month it's all about body confidence - something many of us girls lack more often than not! Gracing the front cover is Olympic gold hopeful, Jessica Ennis - who could be more appropriate as London 2012 starts this month? And who better to talk about body confidence?

Ennis loves her body - she uses it to win medals! When one of the UK athletics big-wigs called her "fat", Jessica just shrugged it off (whilst many of us would have hidden away with a box of tissues and a tub of Ben & Jerry's) saying, "It's something that has been blown out of proportion a bit. I'm obviously very happy with my weight." Good on her.

Being in the public eye and such a competitive environment, it's admirable that not only does Jessica seem at ease with herself, but she's also got her feet firmly on the ground - especially given that this close to the Olympics she seems to be such a beacon of hope that she's everywhere - adverts, posters, magazine covers, even the landing field at Heathrow airport!

She has the right attitude - and shares it with all of you Cosmo subscribers! Her rules include not letting people put pressure on you, believing you can bounce back from setbacks and surrounding yourself with supportive people - especially a supportive man.

Speaking of having to pull out of the 2008 Olympic games, she says "It was the worst moment of my career. When the doctors told me there was no way I'd be competing I broke down in tears. I wasn't allowed to put any weight on my foot for 10 weeks, so I basically just watched box sets at home, while everyone's lives were going on without me. But I'm proud of the way I've dealt with setbacks. It's hard when you feel down and you think, 'Why is the world doing this to me?'. But you have to pick yourself up again. That's what makes you a better athlete."

She went on to win gold in the European Athletics Championships, so we trust her advice!
