How to help partners with depression

Woman's Own magazine has given readers some advice on helping their other halves battle with depression.

Woman's Own magazine has published some advice which may be useful for anyone whose partner is struggling with depression.

A reader wrote in to ask counsellor Emma Marlin about the problems she was experiencing with her boyfriend, who had taken redundancy from work.

She explained how he now just mopes around the house feeling sorry for himself and playing computer games.

However, Ms Marlin suggested that the man may not even realise that he is depressed and that the best thing to do is get him to talk to a GP about his situation.

They should be able to prescribe him antidepressants or some form of talking therapy to help alleviate his problems and give him a chance to get on with his life.

She recommended Shoot The Damn Dog: A Memoir Of Depression as a good book to read to help gain a greater understanding of the mental illness.

Meanwhile, Woman's Own magazine recently gave readers tips on how to get their legs in shape for summer.
