The Spartan speaks about ASP World Tour

Michel Bourez, AKA The Spartan, has spoken to Surf Europe magazine about the ASP World Tour.

Michel Bourez has spoken to Surf Europe magazine about the ASP World Tour, on which he recently equalled his best ever result in Brazil.

The 23-year-old former ASP European champion explained that 2010 has been kind to him so far and that he is happy with his current ranking of 12th in the title race.

He described his pleasure at making the quarter-finals in Brazil and said that he was confident of performing well in front of a home crowd at the Billabong Pro Tahiti, after which the tour will be cut from 45 to 32 riders.

"I've been enjoying some time at home since the event finished in Brazil, spent a month surfing and seeing my friends," the star added.

Bourez noted how important such downtime is to allow surfers to "recharge batteries" in preparation for the next big contest.

Before Tahiti, he plans to travel with the Nike 6.0 team - his main sponsor - with which he has an "excellent relationship".

The ASP Billabong Pro event in Tahiti will take place at Teahupoo from August 23rd to September 3rd.
